Ambulance Charges in Lahore: What Affects the Price

Ambulance pricing feels mysterious to most families because it is rarely written down anywhere. Here is what actually determines the fare.

1. Type of ambulance

A basic ambulance carries a stretcher, oxygen and first aid. An oxygen ambulance adds reserve cylinders and a nebuliser. An ICU ambulance carries a ventilator, cardiac monitor, defibrillator and infusion pumps, and a trained paramedic travels with the patient. Each step up adds cost because of equipment and staff, not the vehicle itself.

2. Distance and direction

Inside Lahore, fares are based on the distance between pickup and hospital. For another city, the fare normally includes the ambulance's return journey, because the vehicle has to come back empty.

3. Waiting time

If the crew has to wait while admission paperwork, a test or a discharge is completed, waiting time may be added. Ask about this upfront.

4. Extra equipment or staff

A ventilator, a freezer box for mortuary transport, or a second attendant for a heavy patient can change the fare.

What a fair quote looks like

  • A single total amount, given before the ambulance is dispatched
  • Clear statement of whether the return trip is included
  • No demand for extra money once the patient is inside the vehicle
